About the role

he Traveling Nuclear Turbine Millwright supports refueling outages at nuclear power plants nationwide, performing inspection, maintenance, and overhaul of steam turbine-generator systems. This role executes precision turbine work including rotor handling, clearance verification, laser alignment, and component replacement critical to safe and successful unit restarts.

Work is performed under outage-driven schedules and often on the critical path. This position requires full-time travel, and strict adherence to nuclear safety, QA/QC, Radiation Protection, and Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) standards.

This position is located at the Catawba Nuclear Station, supporting plant operations through TNC Energy Services.

Responsibilities

• Travel to nuclear generating stations for refueling outages
• Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble HP/IP/LP steam turbines
• Perform precision measurement of rotors, diaphragms, bearings, and seals
• Set and verify turbine clearances per OEM specifications
• Conduct laser alignment of turbine-generator shafts
• Install bearings, packing, seals, and couplings
• Execute rotor and casing lifts using certified rigging practices
• Maintain Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) controls
• Follow nuclear QA/QC documentation and controlled work packages
• Comply with Radiation Protection (RP) requirements

Experience / Required Qualifications 

• Journeyman Millwright or equivalent experience
• Prior nuclear outage experience is required 
• Precision measurement and laser alignment proficiency
• Ability to work extended outage hours and travel full-time

Please Note:
This role is specific to nuclear steam turbine-generator outage work and is not a general maintenance or plant operations position. Applicants must have direct turbine overhaul experience in outage environments.
