Job Summary

We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to play a critical role in shaping the future architecture of ResortPass’s marketplace platform. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, this role will act as a technical anchor for the backend systems that power our core marketplace experiences.

You will lead a major backend platform transformation, including the rewrite of our Marketplace Core APIs and the consolidation of key business logic—such as pricing, availability, and booking flows—into a reliable backend domain that serves as the single source of truth. Today, much of this logic is fragmented across services and the frontend, creating operational risk and slowing product iteration. Your work will establish the architecture, standards, and guardrails needed to support the next phase of growth.

This is a high-leverage Staff-level role focused on system correctness, scalability, and reliability. You will define backend architectural direction, lead technical decision-making, and partner closely with engineering leadership to deliver a clear architecture roadmap. Beyond technical design, you will mentor engineers, elevate engineering standards, and help teams move faster by improving platform stability and developer experience.

The impact of this role spans multiple teams across the organization, including Marketplace Consumer & Growth (B2B), Hotels (B2C), Data, and Platform Engineering. You will help enable the rewrite of key customer journeys, support integrations with external spa booking platforms, and build backend systems that allow product teams to ship with speed and confidence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural evolution of the backend, establishing it as the single source of truth for pricing, inventory, and marketplace logic.

• Drive the full API redesign and rewrite of Marketplace Core, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability across the platform.

• Design and implement integrations with external vendors, supporting the Hotels platform and enabling future marketplace partnerships.

• Consolidate fragmented pricing and inventory logic into a unified backend domain to reduce risk and improve product velocity.

• Define and enforce API contracts and service boundaries, enabling multiple engineering teams to ship features safely and efficiently.

• Act as a technical owner for core backend domains, making key architectural decisions and partnering with the Head of Engineering on long-term platform strategy.

• Mentor engineers and elevate engineering standards, improving reliability, observability, and development practices across teams.

Qualifications and Job Requirements

• Strong experience building and scaling backend systems using Ruby on Rails and/or Node.js.

• Proven ability to operate at a Staff or senior technical leadership level, driving architectural decisions and mentoring engineers.

• Experience designing robust APIs and backend services that support complex business domains and integrations.

• Strong experience working with relational and NoSQL databases, particularly PostgreSQL and MongoDB.

• Hands-on experience deploying and operating systems in AWS cloud environments.

• Experience working with containerized services and orchestration, particularly AWS ECS.

• Experience building and maintaining reliable, scalable production systems with strong operational ownership.

• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools, such as Datadog, to ensure system reliability and performance.
